South London

The first phase of my summer travels began in Cairo. However, my Egyptian excursion was ephemeral. I now find myself in the United Kingdom for dissertation research searching through commercial letters, diplomatic records, and travelogues. Unfortunately, I cannot photograph my manuscripts at the British Library. But I can document the sites and objects. Thus, I decided to share some shots I took during my walk through Brixton in South London. I focused on spaces and objects that reminded me of Brooklyn. The melange of graffiti, rubbish and towers reminded me of the many working class residents I see in the states. Across the pond, people of color also find themselves in ghettos.
